Custom Alerts in D365 F&O
Ever wanted to keep track of when something changed on a record or a new record was added? You can!
D365 F&O has a built-in functionality for creating alerts. You can set up alerts on specific records or fields to notify users when certain conditions are met. Users can create their own alerts to meet their unique needs, without the intervention of IT or a System Admin! While the availablity for what you can alert on will vary from form to form, there are still many options to choose from throughout the system!
Setup Your Alert
To create an alert, navigate to the form you would like to set an alert on. On the Options tab of a record or form, select Create a custom alert in the Share section.Â
I'm going to create one from All Sales orders. And I want to know when a record is added for a specific customer. I can set the field to alert for to "Customer Account" and the event is when "is set to" is "DE-001".
You can choose to alert for all records in the table, or only one specific record.Â
You can also choose if you want to run the alert with no end date, or with a certain end date.Â
You can even customize what the alert details will, including the subject and message! Email addresses - even more than one- can be specified!
These alerts are handy, especially for areas of the system you want to keep an eye on, but don't want to keep checking for a specific event to occur. I have seen scenarios where an integration is using the Data Management import functionality to pull information into D365 and create records. Using custom alerts, the team is able to be notified when the integration runs into an error and the records cannot be created! This prompts immediate action and doesn't require daily reviews to make sure the integration is working as expected! This no code solution to alert for specific scenarios is easy to implement and standard to all D365 F&O environments!
