Batch Job Updates in D365 F&O in 10.0.39

May 22, 2024

Updates to D365 F&O bring all sorts of new and helpful features and functionality. But sometimes there are some fixes that are the unsung heroes. Lets take a look at some updates to the batch job functionality that have arrived as part of the April 2024 (10.0.39) release! They may not be flashy, but they are certainly improvements that will make System Admins around the world smile!

Update Batch Status to Withhold

Have you ever noticed that when you would try to put a batch job into "Withhold" status it didn't take right away? You would have to select "waiting" before then re-selecting "Withhold" before the selection would take. Thanks to a bug fix in 10.0.39, the system will now recognize "Withhold" as a default selection, and you don't have to select another status before choosing "Withhold". The form will now recognize the preselected, default selection the very first time.

Batch Jobs Stuck in Executing After Maintence Window

Often times some batch jobs will get stuck in an executing state after a normal maintenance window, such as a deployment or quality update, server crash, or a server restart. I have seen these batch jobs stay in executing for days, even weeks, taking valuable batch processing tasks away from critical business processes.  The new functionality will automatically monitor and update these tasks, moving them to their next valid state. If you have ever seen "Data cache refresh batch" stuck before, this is a joyful fix to see.

These changes may be small, but if you have ever run into these scenarios, you can understand how even these small improvements can make a big impact to your organization!
